Parkinson’s Awareness Month

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month!

On 8th April, we welcomed writer, former BBC correspondent, and Parkinson’s podcaster (Movers and Shakers), Rory Cellan-Jones, for a live conversation about someone very special in his life – Sophie, a very shy rescue dog from Romania. Sophie has had such a big impact on Rory’s life that he has written a book about her, Sophie from Romania.

The book follows the journey of Sophie’s adoption. From her battles with anxiety to her first adventures outside, making friends, and the hard work and reward of building her trust – all while Rory navigated his Parkinson’s diagnosis.

World Parkinson's Day

On World Parkinson’s Day on 11th April, we collaborated with Parkinson’s UK, the national charity supporting the Parkinson’s community, and We Are Undefeatable to host a day of Parkinson’s-friendly exercise sessions. Qualified instructors hosted Parkinson’s-specific classes that included Neuro-Moves - Dance for Parkinson’s, a High-Intensity Parkinson’s Workout, Bounceback Exercise, Parkinson’s Beats drumming, Gentle Chair Yoga and Relaxation, a Seated Parkinson’s Exercise Class, and Exercising with Neuro Heroes: Thriving with Parkinson's.
