Rory joins the Virtual Village Hall to discuss someone very special – a shy rescue dog called Sophie from Romania, adopted by Rory and his wife in 2022.
Sophie has had such a huge impact on Rory’s life that he’s written a wonderful book about her, Sophie from Romania with Square Peg Books.
The book follows the journey of Sophie’s adoption. From her battles with anxiety to her first adventures outside, making friends, and the hard work and reward of building her trust – all while Rory navigated his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
Rory Cellan-Jones is in conversation with Caroline Gillwood, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Royal Voluntary Service.

About Rory
Rory Cellan-Jones is a writer and was the BBC’s principal technology correspondent until 2021. He writes an influential Substack column on medical innovation, spreading awareness of technological developments in the fields of medicine, health care and – more specifically – Parkinson’s.
He co-hosts the Parkinson’s podcast, Movers and Shakers, in which a group of friends with interesting careers in the public eye gather to discuss the realities of life with Parkinson’s.
The group have designed ‘The Parky Charter’ which calls on the government for better support for people with Parkinson’s.

On World Parkinson's Day on the 11th of April, we're collaborating with Parkinson's UK, the national charity supporting the Parkinson's community, and We Are Undefeatable to host a day of Parkinson's-friendly exercise sessions. From Dance classes to Parkinson's Beats exercise drumming, there are a variety of sessions with standing and seated options that everyone can join in with.
