Autism Acceptance Month
World Autism Acceptance Month aims to promote understanding, acceptance and inclusion of autistic people in society and to foster a society that supports and empowers autistic people.
Organisations, charities and individuals support the month, working to educate the public about autism and its diverse presentations, celebrating neurodiversity, and working to create environments where autistic people can thrive in all aspects of life.
It’s a great opportunity to share stories and resources about autism, organise events that promote acceptance and understanding, and lobbying for policies and practices that support autistic people and their families.
On 24th of April at 11am, Caroline Gillwood, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Royal Voluntary Service will be in conversation with Chris Jesson, AKA Groovy Gardening UK. Chris is a speaker, writer, presenter and Head Gardener at Le Pommier Hotel in Guernsey. He is a passionate advocate for autistic gardeners and will be discussing the importance of gardening, growing and plants to his life.
We're also featuring a session with Annabel Morgan from the audiobook charity, Listening Books, who was joined for a Q&A with Emily Katy, Sunday Times best-selling author of Girl Unmasked, a memoir about the impact of a late diagnosis of autism and her lived experience of ADHD and mental illness. The book is about what it can be like to be autistic and shows us that through understanding and embracing difference, we can all find ways to thrive.
