Build a bee brick

Join Rachel, as she shares her passion for gardening with you in this session inspired by one of nature’s hardest workers, the bee! During the session, she will show you how to make a bee brick that will provide a safe nesting space as well as shelter for solitary bees. As she guides you along with practical tips in making your brick, she discusses the importance of incorporating bee-friendly habitats in your outdoor space to help to protect bees and our ecosystem. A wonderful session where you can learn to make a simple yet impactful addition to your garden or outdoor space, while attracting and sustaining our diverse bee populations.

Materials

  • Clay soil (if your local soil isn’t clay try to source it from someone or mix air-dry clay with your garden soil)
  • Sand (any type with no or very few stones)
  • Straw or any dried grasses
  • Water

Equipment

  • A mould (you can use a plastic milk bottle or juice carton)
