Author Q+A with Kit de Waal

Guest: Kit de Waal with Nicola Austin from Listening Books

Nicola Austin from Listening Books, the audiobook charity, is joined by award winning novelist and short story writer, Kit de Waal, for this month’s book chat. Kit’s first novel, My Name is Leon was shortlisted for the Costa first novel award. Her second book, The Trick to Time was longlisted for the women’s prize for fiction. She was named FutureBook Person of the Year in 2019. The author discusses her new book, The Best of Everything.

About The Best of Everything

The Best of Everything is a celebration of the transformative power of kindness. The book follows Paulette, a woman who likes her future mapped out, starting with her wedding to Denton. Her life changes when Garfield, Denton’s friend, arrives with the news that Denton will not be coming back, and she will not have a chance to say goodbye.

Garfield soon becomes part of her life, and before long there is a baby. Giving her son Bird the best of everything becomes Paulette’s purpose. But why does another little boy, Nellie, keep Paulette awake at night? Nellie lives a few streets away, with no sign of a mother. Surely Paulette is the last person who should get involved.
