Claire Bell from Listening Books, the audiobook charity, is joined by acclaimed crime and mystery writer, Simon Brett OBE. Simon is the author of the Charles Paris, Mrs Pargeter, Fethering and Blotto & Twinks crime novels.
His Charles Paris stories about an actor and amateur detective have been adapted by BBC Radio 4 for a series starring Bill Nighy. In this Virtual Village Hall Book Club conversation, Simon discusses his latest ‘cosy crime’ book, Major Bricket and the Circus Corpse, his writing process and career.
About Major Bricket and the Circus Corpse:
Major Bricket from the Suffolk village of Stunston Peveril is a mystery. Often absent and working overseas in an unknown occupation, he sets village tongues wagging. Now retired, the Major returns for good, but faces quite a homecoming when he finds the corpse of a clown lying on his lawn. The circus is in town for the annual village fair, but one of its clowns is missing! Major Bricket steps forward to solve the mystery.
About Simon Brett:
As well as being a crime novelist, Simon Brett is a radio and TV comedy writer and playwright whose series include No Commitments and After Henry. He was awarded an OBE for services to literature in 2016 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Simon is a former Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association and former President of The Detection Club of leading British mystery writers.
