Nicola Austin from Listening Books, the audiobook charity, welcomes Scottish children’s literature writer Elle McNicoll to this month’s book chat. Elle will talk about her debut adult romance, Unapologetic Love Story, and her popular YA novel A Kind of Spark, both of which feature autistic characters, in celebration of World Autism Acceptance Month. We’ll also explore how neurodivergent characters are represented in novels and hear about Elle’s experience with the audiobook process.

About Elle:

Elle is a bestselling, award-winning novelist and screenwriter. Her debut novel, A Kind of Spark, received the Blue Peter Book Award, the Overall Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, and was named Blackwell’s Book of 2020. Her first novel for adults, Unapologetic Love Story, is set for release in April 2026. As an autistic and dyspraxic writer, she advocates for better representation of neurodiversity in publishing. Elle lives in North London.
