Allotment Diaries Part 18 – Gardening as Exercise

Tutor: Rachel Moore, print artist

Join Rachel for the eighteenth instalment of her Allotment Diaries series during Get Moving Week at the Virtual Village Hall in partnership with Yakult!

Join keen wildlife gardener, allotment grower and resident VVH print maker and artist, Rachel Moore, for the latest instalment in her Allotment Diaries series. Rachel has been working her Kent allotment for 20 years.

In this episode, Rachel gets moving and shows how digging, lifting, and stretching on her plot are great ways to stay fit and warm in the winter months. She’ll also be sharing some of her favourite gardening books, both trusted classics and new finds that are keeping her inspired through the colder months.

This video was recorded in December 2025.

In the Allotment Diaries series, join Rachel throughout the year as she shares tips for growing your own produce, along with the successes and challenges she faces each season. You’ll gain insight into what happens on an allotment, the unusual vegetables she's growing, and the wildlife that visits.

As Rachel says: “Don’t expect pristine produce or immaculately weeded, straight rows of veg!”

If you’re feeling motivated to try some exercise snacks, or longer dance sessions, you’ll find a wide range of bite-sized exercise and dance sessions during Get Moving Week in partnership with Yakult in our Get Moving Week YouTube Playlist here.
