Forcing winter bulbs for indoor winter colour

As well as being the Virtual Village Hall’s resident print maker, artist Rachel Moore is a keen gardener and allotment owner. Every year, Rachel forces some spring bulbs for some indoor winter cheer and scent, and wanted to share her technique with Virtual Villagers. Why not join in and bring some spring cheer over the winter months with some Paperwhite Narcissus bulbs.

- Glass container – Rachel suggests a 250ml mason jar, a cleaned and empty scented candle holder or large jam jar
- Paperwhite (Narcissus Papyraceus) bulbs
- Pebbles - enough for three layers in the jar
- Twigs such as Silver Birch, Willow or Hazel
- Water
