Understanding Grief, Loss and Bereavement with AtaLoss: Session 1
Host: Dr Roger Greene, Deputy Chief Executive, AtaLoss
If you’ve been or are currently affected by loss, grief or bereavement, you’ll know that it can be difficult to talk about your experiences and to process how you’re feeling.
From May-July, Dr. Roger Greene, Deputy Chief Executive at AtaLoss, the bereavement support charity, will be hosting a new series of supportive twilight sessions that we hope you’ll find helpful.
Roger will be exploring different dimensions of bereavement, strategies to manage different emotions, how to help others and the language we use to do that, and the importance of supporting our personal health and wellbeing during this difficult time.
The first session is on 7th May at 6pm, marking the start of Dying Matters Awareness Week, a Hospice UK campaign to make things better for people who are dying or grieving and to break down the stigma and taboo of talking about death and dying.
In this first session, Roger introduces AtaLoss and explores:
- Loss, grief, mourning and bereavement, and the difference between these states.
- The importance of processing grief for personal wellbeing.
- How to normalise loss and grief.
- How to recognise the difference between normal grief and mental ill health.
- The significance of attachments and separations in handling loss and grief.
