Easy paper making: Part 1

Capture a summer of memories in this two-part session as print artist, Rachel Moore, shows how to make textured paper, layered with reminders of holidays, weddings and days out. In the second session, Rachel shows how to use the sheets to make a stitched journal to keep all those memories safe.

Preparation

Prepare your materials and find a sturdy table or floor to work on.

  • 6 sheets of white tissue paper, such as the type used for packing garments/wrapping gifts, usually A1 paper size 
  • 4-6 cellophane sheets, such as florist’s wrapping plastic or a large sheet of acrylic/Perspex 
  • A selection of dry, thin/flat materials that you’ve collected over the summer. These will be layered between the paper and might include: 
  • Dried flowers and leaves 
  • Confetti 
  • Tickets 
  • Small sections of text or images cut from souvenir leaflets 
  • Seeds 
  • You can also add colour with spice powders (turmeric and chilli), coloured thread and string, 
  • coloured paper, glitter 
  • PVA glue in a container 
  • Water to mix with the glue 
  • A wide brush to apply glue
