Make your own hair scrunchies

Join craft tutor Gemma as she demonstrates how to make super-simple hair scrunchies and hair bands from fabric scraps.

Prep: prepare your materials and clear a space to work

Materials and equipment you'll need to take part:

For scrunchies (using hand sewing): 

  • A piece of fabric, 50-60cm long x 10cm wide 
  • Pins 
  • Needle and thread 
  • A long piece of elastic 
  • Safety pin 

For hairbands (using a sewing machine): 

  • Plastic hairband 
  • A piece of fabric, approx. 43cm long
  • 2 pieces of fabric in a long boat shape, approx. 29cm x 15cm x 9cm
