Knit a Fair Isle hairband from leftover yarn

Join knitwear designer, tutor and craft journalist, Jo Allport, as she knits and sews a Fair Isle headband, an upcycle knitting project that combines small balls of leftover yarn with some new yarn. Jo teaches the Fair Isle technique, using yarn held in one hand and both hands. To take part, you’ll need to know how to cast on, work in knit and purl, and how to cast off. Materials and equipment you'll need to take part:

  • 150m of new yarn to be used for the background shade
  • A minimum of 4 different small balls of unused yarn. All yarn needs to be a double knitting weight
  • A pair of 4mm (UK 8) knitting needles
  • A tapestry needle
  • A pair of scissors
