How to make vintage tea party bunting

No vintage tea party is complete without bunting. Bunting is an easy way to transform a room or outdoor space for a celebration and it’s easy to make yourself. Workshop tutor Gemma shows us how to make two different types of bunting – traditional sewn bunting using cotton fabric and a sewing machine, and ‘no sew’ bunting using colourful felt.

Preparation: prepare your materials and clear a space to work

Materials and equipment you'll need to take part:

For sewn bunting: 

  • Sewing machine 
  • Fabric scraps 
  • Paper 
  • Pencil 
  • Pins  
  • Thick ribbon 
  • Scissors 

For ‘no sew’ bunting: 

  • Felt 
  • Paper 
  • Pencil  
  • Pins 
  • Scissors 
  • Darning needle  
  • Rope or thread 

For both: 

  • Optional: additional decoration e.g. pompoms, tassels, buttons
